Electric Master Clock with Hipp Escapement GPO Type 36
This impressive instrument is 55" (140cm) high, 14.5" (37cm) wide and 8" (20cm) deep and weighs 25kg.
I have no idea when it was made or where is was installed, but it could control a large and complex installation as it can give impulses at intervals of 1, 6 and 30 seconds.
Although made by the Synchronome company, it does not use the usual Synchronome-type escapement but instead it has a version of the Hipp escapement. In this case the pivot of the freely swinging pallet is attached to an electrical contact and the notched block is attached to the pendulum.
From a mechanical point of view, it seems to be complete and in reasonable order. However, the electrical aspects are beyond me and for this reason I have never attempted to get it running.
Please read the next part very carefully.
I am able to personally deliver this item to U.K. postcode areas RH and BN for the cost of the diesel only. Otherwise it must be collected from near Gatwick Airport in South East England. If you require it to be packed and shipped, you must arrange this to be done yourself using a packer and carrier of your choice. If you are considering this option, the size and weight are stated above.
